SQ Innovation and FIS Ink Agreement for Long-Term Supply of Pharma-Grade Furosemide

The furosemide API will be used for SQ Innovation products both current and in the pipeline.

SQ Innovation and FIS (Fabbrica Italiana Sintetici) have a strategic supply agreement to secure long-term availability of pharmaceutical-grade furosemide.

Purpose of Furosemide API

The furosemide active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) will be used for SQ Innovation products both current and in the pipeline. Specifically, this includes continued production of Lasix ONYU, a loop diuretic to treat edema in adult patients with heart failure. In 2025, the U.S. FDA approved this drug-device combination for at-home use.

The FDA approval is important because this particular condition usually requires intravenous administration of diuretics in a hospital setting.

That said, the SQ–FIS partnership supports other products in the U.S., Europe, and globally, plus future geographic expansion.

More from SQ and FIS

SQ Innovation Founder, President, and CEO Pieter Muntendam, MD said reliable high-quality therapies can provide patients alternatives to hospitalizations.

“A reliable supply of high-quality furosemide API is critical to our mission of providing innovative heart failure treatment,” Muntendam said. “FIS’ reputation for excellence in API manufacturing and their commitment to quality align with our standards and our growth objectives.”

Echoing that, FIS Chairman and CEO Daniele Piergentili.

“We are proud to partner with SQ Innovation in advancing transformative solutions for heart failure treatment,” Piergentili said. “By combining our advanced manufacturing expertise with rigorous quality and regulatory standards, we can provide … strong, reliable supply.”

SQ Innovation has offices in Zug, Switzerland, Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and Burlington, Mass. in the U.S.

FIS has three plants in Italy, commercial offices in North America and Japan, and other operating sites in China and India.
